The Cookoff  has been recognized by the Texas Legislature as a State Championship Event.  This means that winning the competition automatically qualifies the entrant for a spot in the National Championship BBQ Cookoff in Meridian as well as a spot in the famous American Royal competition in Kansas City.  In addition, the winner will be entered into a drawing for a chance to be a Texas representative in the Jack Daniels Invitational in Lynchburg.
